The Geologic Time Scale

The history of the Earth, which began with the formation of the planet approximately 4.5 billion years ago, is divided into named units of unequal ranks like «Mesozoic», «Triassic», «Jurassic», «Cretaceous» and so on (see below).

This chronology of relative time sequences has always remained the same.

In addition, there is an absolute time measure mainly based on radiometric methods. These specifications of absolute ages are consistently changing with ongoing scientific research.
